Derelict Woodthorpe property brought back to use

Gerard Hodgson and William Owen, two of Labour’s campaign team for Dringhouses and Woodthorpe stand outside the house on Lerecroft Road, that was brought back in to use due to Labour’s Empty Homes Policy.

The house had been a menace to neighbours for over ten years. In September 2011 The Labour Council introduced a policy that took up Government powers to bring empty homes back in to use. Powers the previous Liberal Democrat administration had refused to take up.

These powers include Empty Dwelling Management Orders and Compulsory Purchase Powers.

Gerard Hodgson and Anna Semlyen campaigned to have the policy implemented. Thanks to these new powers the owners of this formally derelict property finally put it up for sale. The house is now being renovated and we look forward to a family moving in soon.
