Rachael Maskell launched her re-election campaign for the General Election at Tower Gardens on Saturday.
Delivering a rebuke to Theresa May and her Tory government for the reckless timing of the election, Rachael emphasised the stark differences between the Conservative punishment and demonisation of those "on the line, under the line" who have come to her office in need, and Labour’s promise to turn the spotlight on the establishment by demanding that the £40 billion in avoided taxes are paid.
Noting the urgent need for feet on the ground, Rachael made a call to action:
"From today, I want to see your faces out on the streets. Putting the leaflets through the letter boxes, knocking on the doors, having the conversations with your friends, your colleagues, your neighbours and to get this message out: if you want a country that works for you, it's not the Tories, it's Labour that will deliver that.
"We can win in York. We will win in York. Because we have got the values and the principles that are needed in politics."
