Save Hagg and Wheldrake Woods

In both 1996 and 2010 the Conservatives attempted to sell off our National Forests. These plans were only halted thanks to the campaigns run by ordinary people all over the country. If re-elected, it is clear that another Conservative government would try for a third time to privatise our forests and woodlands.

If Hagg Wood and Wheldrake Woods are sold off, then under private ownership, access rights for the public are not guaranteed. Private landowners will be keen to make a return on their investment, resulting in the use of heavier machinery and more disruption to neighbouring communities.

Hagg and Wheldrake Woods are much loved local assets, freely available and much used by residents of all ages. Only Labour promises to keep these woodlands in public ownership and open to everyone.

Unlike the Conservatives, we also strongly oppose any fracking developments in the York area.
