Back in February, the Conservative councillor who claimed building more affordable homes would make York into "the Milton Keynes of the north" is moved a motion calling for the resignation of Cllr Tracey Simpson-Laing - for not building more affordable homes.
It was a remarkable move from the York Tories, who have continued to claim that the reason there aren't enough affordable homes in York is because... developers haven't been allowed to get away with not building any affordable homes.
We were exclusively able to reveal the 12 point Tory Plan for affordable homes in York, showing how Tory councillors would reinforce the policies of the Tory and Lib Dem government - to make York's housing crisis far worse.
- The number of affordable homes built across the country under this government is down by 30% since they came into office, and it's still falling.
- This government has already overseen a 12% rise in the number of households depending on temporary accomodation, whilst remarkably the number of new home builds completed across the country last year actually fell compared to the previous year.
By ensuring that fewer homes are built, fewer of those that are built are affordable, slashing the government's affordable house building budget, hammering household budgets, and hitting 1,000 York households with the Bedroom Tax, the Tories would take York's housing crisis to a whole new level.
- All this from the people who told you that there is no real poverty in Britain and it is an over-used word.
Tonight the Conservatives want you to believe that they have been in favour of affordable homes for York residents all along. Plase share the Tory Affordable Housing Plan and let people know the truth.
